Welcome Dr. Arlene Dijamco to Inspired Mom MDs

Hi and thank you for joining me today!

I’m so excited to share this interview with Dr. Arlene Dijamco today!

But first, I have an apology for you all about the recording. I learned a valuable lesson – always have a backup!

You see, I used the same program to record today’s audio as I have in the past. Never had an issue, until now, with poor sound quality.

Therefore, you will notice a few blips here and there that sound like they’ll cut out but won’t.  For the ones that really did, I recorded my own voice to fill in some small gaps to keep you on track. Please forgive my interruptions! This interview was too amazing to not publish!

Here’s a little background on my guest today.

Dr. Arlene Dijamco, The MultiDimensional MD, is an integrative physician, pediatrician, and cranial osteopath who is passionate about making the intangible aspects of health—the energetic, mental, emotional, and spiritual—more practical for people.

She studied at Harvard, Emory, and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, but her therapeutic toolbox expanded tremendously after completing Dr. Andrew Weil’s two-year integrative medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona.

Dr. Dijamco is known for her intuitive knack and her abilities to connect with and empower people to nourish and balance all layers of their health.

She serves on the faculty of the Osteopathic Cranial Academy and with Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment; she also teaches Tension and Trauma Release Exercises around the country.

She founded and oversees All Worlds Health, which includes her medical practice near Atlanta, Georgia, as well as a nonprofit and a publishing company.

Dr. Dijamco recently launched two teaching programs: The Dig On Series— for osteopathic physicians, and School of Stillness—Where Everyone Is a Healer, for wellness practitioners and all explorers interested in self-development.

She also hosts two podcasts: The MultiDimensional MD on YouTube and Edgar Cayce’s Creating Calm—Parenting with Mind, Body, and Spirit, with co-host Corinne Cayce.

At home, she is a yoga novice, an awesome wife, and mom to four incredible girls.

And, she just released a new book! It’s called, I Am Intuitive, a Multi-Dimensional Guide to Embrace Your Inner Light.

Time to roll tape!

Dr. Cindy  Hello Dr Dijamco, thank you so much for joining me today.

Dr. Arlene Dijamco
Thank you so much for having me. I’m really happy to be here.

Dr. Cindy  I’m so excited you’re here. I just told everyone all about you, but just briefly, I did tell them that you’re an integrative physician, you’re a pediatrician and a cranial osteopath, and also that you’re known for your intuitive knack and your abilities to connect with and empower people to nourish and balance all the layers of their health.

And I mentioned your new book, which is I Am Intuitive, a Multi-Dimensional Guide to Embrace Your Inner Light. I read it cover to cover, and I have all these pages folded right here! So, I highly recommend it, but we’ll come back to that for sure.

To start, I would love to invite you to talk about your mission, which you do in your introduction in your book, and it has to do with bringing, and I love these words, an intuitive spirit, back to medicine in practical and in tangible ways.

Can You Tell Everyone a Little More about the Ways You’re Delivering your Mission?

Dr. Arlene Dijamco

  • Well, you know, it’s so interesting because I started saying that mission statement in 2020, just before pandemic hit, not knowing what was going to happen. And then everything went virtual. And then and there was like, gosh, how do you deliver health in a virtual way?
  • So, one of the first things we had to do was to show people, how to treat themselves, how to help themselves. And I mean, I’m just seeing how this kind of manifested over time in ways I couldn’t have thought up, but I but just looking back, I’m like, Oh my gosh, that’s what I said. It was to bring the intuitive spirit back and practical and tangible ways so that people can ask access deeper healing.
  • Then we started teaching this lymph pumping technique, which is an osteopathic technique to help people move their lymph, kind of drain inflammation, detoxify the body. And it was phenomenal, because people were able to clear mucus plugs and to drain swollen glands on their own over Zoom.
  • Then you might think what does lymph have to do with spirit? Well, in order to teach them how to do this cranial osteopathic technique, efficiently, and successfully they needed to be super grounded in their body and really present, and so that they could get in touch with this, this part of their body, this aspect of them that was very fluid, and be able to pump it efficiently.
  • And so, what people started to discover, they’re like, oh my gosh, what you’re doing, you’re teaching us how to meditate and be really present with ourselves. And I was like, yeah, because you can’t, you can’t do this without starting from that.
  • It was like a teaching of being first, and then from that resulted, like this physical ability, a manifestation which is so amazing. And then, you know, going through the years, that was 2020 so now 2024 almost 2025 and seeing how it’s manifested in so many other ways too.
  • Another is, was with this book, but also I started teaching osteopathic physicians how to do more things like this. So, it’s not just the lymph pumping, because what I in my practice, what I say, is like part of my intuitive knack is, is to be able to perceive the emotional body, directly and safely as another dimension of your being.
  • So, in the osteopathic world, I’m an MD that works with osteopaths and teaches osteopaths. So, in the osteopathic world, we learn how to feel in very subtle detail, bone, of course, that’s easy. Membrane, the fascia, the tension, the kinks in the membrane, the dura, but also the fluid.
  • And so this is where the limb pumping comes in. Fluid is much more subtle to feel. But then what we do, what I’ll do, is also add this other dimension of being able to sense and perceive the emotional body and work with it directly.
  • And so, to know we’ve done that. Started doing that a couple years ago, not even two years ago, and I’m just starting to come back around and see the how that blossomed. Because the physicians that we’ve taught, what I found is like, this is teachable.
  • Just like what we did with the limp pumping, we’re able to teach it to regular people, and then now to teach physicians how to perceive the emotional body and integrate it into their visits and appointments. All different kinds of physicians, sports medicine, you know, manual therapists, Family Medicine, pediatricians, dentists, all different kinds of physicians.
  • I’m hearing amazing stories starting to circle back around, like one physician told me he saw this woman who had undergone chemotherapy and couldn’t walk afterwards. Nobody could figure out what was going on. Been to all these specialists, and he said after using the concepts he learned from our courses, she was able to walk again.
  • And then another physician said that she saw a woman and just had a lot of stress and trauma. So this is a lot that we teach about, of course, with perceiving the emotional body, who, after the visit, like with the treatment she was, she said she was the most relaxed she’d ever remembered being, and then she said that she slept so well that night, and the next day, she saw her therapist, and her therapist was wondering what happened. Her therapist told her this was like 13 years of therapy.
  • For me to see that come back around, because I’m I see this all the time in my practice, but to see that this is a gift that can keep on giving.
  • To show other people how to do it for themselves, and then to show physicians how to help their patients help themselves first with it, and then their patients. This is what bringing that intuitive spirit back to medicine in practical and in tangible ways.
  • Honestly, I had no idea that I was going to be teaching physicians like this at this point in my life. I’m a mom of four, I wrote this book, you know, lots of other things going on.
  • But through conversations like this, then people would ask questions, and then just having discussions, you’re like, oh, you should teach that. And I was like, oh, yeah, I didn’t know if anyone was interested in that. And so, finding that there is a lot of interest, and anyway, it just keeps going from there. And I could give you so many examples.

Dr. Cindy  Oh, my goodness. This started out with one mission that has just evolved and blossomed into helping not just your patients over zoom, because COVID started, but other physicians and their patients.

And you mentioned physicians taking care of themselves first and before taking care of their patients.

You spend so much time teaching other people how to do this.

How has this Helped you Help Yourself First as a Physician?

Dr. Cindy How has this impacted or influenced your own life?

strong>Dr. Arlene Dijamco

I don’t really know how I would be able to address my patients’ issues without taking care of myself first.

People have asked me, you know, like, how do you let things just roll off you like water and it’s because I’m here to help people with their journey.

You know, we each have our own journey and our walk through life, what we’re growing and learning about. And I’m here to help them, but when I when I speak to my patients, I still speak to them as equals.

I’m going to help them get themselves out of it. And, you know, there will be things that I’ll be doing to help lift that and alleviate some of the suffering. But ultimately, the true healing is if they are able to access it themselves.

If they’re reliant on me, I’m not talking about you know, of course, there’s things that, thank goodness for modern medicine, that we are able to extend life and access health in different ways, but if, ultimately, my goal is to help empower them so that they can take care of themselves.

When I look at all the things, because I deal with a lot of stress and emotional trauma, so very intense things that people have been through. And the thing is, I can see the beauty in them, in their spirit, in their essence.

That is untouchable by the ups and downs of human life. It’s that spirit, the true health. It’s always there. It never disappears.

So really, if you want to access health, is to allow that true health from within, which is that light and love of your spirit, be expressed more fully through your being. And so, if you can see that, in addition to everything else going on with the pain and the discomfort, but you can still see that light of their health, then everything’s always okay.

No matter what happens to you, no matter what you’ve thought, said or done, you’re still all deserving of love.

So that somehow creates a big nest of “okayness” and acceptance and love and embracing that no matter what you do – so you can just be this toddler in the universe and have your playground. And you know, hopefully it’s a path of more ease, which is, you know, if you’re accessing your intuition, then you’ll have more ease. But if not, you might have some few more hard knocks, but you’ll get your adventure either way.

Dr. Cindy I like how you describe that humans are naturally spiritual beings. It’s not something they have to seek out. And that you make it sound so easy to just blend together the spirit with the body and the mind. The spirit seems like what you’re saying is first?

Dr. Arlene DijamcoYes, it’s a yes and no at the same time, because, sure, the spirit, it’s like that true health from within. But we’re still these multi-dimensional beings, so we’re body, mind and spirit.

From my perspective, it’s not lessening the role of the body or the mind at all. It’s actually letting it all integrate and be in harmony and alignment with each other, and that is health.

It’s not to diminish – like oh, because what happens is people that start feeling like they’re more enlightened, or, you know, talking about spirit – they can be just as hard on themselves.

You can bypass the body and bypass the mind, because if you do so, you’ll no longer be human. You really need to integrate all of it. It’s known that your body is like this sacred home for your soul, for your life. And your mind is your way to navigate.

You need all of it, but if you follow those whispers of guidance from spirit, which can be whispers or bigger signs.  They’re everywhere in your life and in through they’re coming through your body. They’re coming through your mind. They’re coming through your life. And that’s, that’s a lot of what the book is about is how to recognize those, those signs and be able to use them in a way that’s easy and practical.

Dr. Cindy  Well, speaking of practical, yeah, you have exercises throughout the book.

Dr. Cindy  And in any of those sections, people can access all these fantastic exercises right then and there while they’re reading. And that was one of my favorite parts about your book, was that they can, it was very practical. They can implement it right then.

One of My Favorite Parts About Your Book … it was Very Practical!

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  I love it because then the book represents itself so well.

Yes, it will build through so it’s divided into four parts. In the first three parts are body, mind, spirit, and then there’s three chapters in the first three parts. So, it’s redefining the body, redefining the mind, redefining the spirit, and then grounding, centering body, grounding, centering mind, grounding, centering spirit.

And then, and then it’s using your body as a compass, so accessing intuition through the body, your mind as a compass, spirit as a compass.

Then we go into chapter four, just the art and the call to medicine to create a more multi-dimensional health, a health care system.

You could read it all the way through, because it will build, but you can also open it up to any page. And so this is where, even if you don’t think you’re intuitive, you could just open it up to a page and then read that section.

We’ve had so many people say they’ve opened it up, and whatever they read just spoke to them in that moment, and they really needed to hear it. It’s so short, so each tiny little section within a chapter is standalone, and everything is meant to feel good.

And that’s something that people the readers, have consistently said, it’s like I feel good reading your book.  Because when you’re talking about like stress and trauma and how to navigate difficulties, I mean, sometimes it can feel down. You know, especially in medicine … the more at risk you are for illness.

You have a whole book about that, which is still important too. But then what do I do? Because, you know, people ask me, they’re like, well I’ve had a lot going on in my life, and more at risk for things. What can I do about that? That’s part of what this book is for.

I wrote it for, I wrote it first for my patients, but I found how useful it is for physicians, because physicians need to take care of themselves too, and, and its many people have left copies in their waiting room and hearing like what people patients have said about it.

Dr. Cindy  That’s a great idea, yeah. So, yeah, and that speaks to taking care of the physician first.

You know, the moms listening today can have a laundry list — it could be burnt out, or on the verge of being burned out. It could be they want to just throw up their hands and leave their job. They’re in all these different this big spectrum of, you know, difficulties that may be unique to physicians and moms, that combo.

How might they use what you’re saying, which could be just your book, not saying they have to buy your book, but how can this apply to their lives? How can it help them?

How Can the Multidimensional and Intuitive Approach Apply to Physician Moms?

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  Well you know, when you asked me that the section that I had thought of was this one on helping versus controlling, because as moms and physicians, we are pulled in so many different directions, and you actually have to choose when to help and when to let go and let you know for our kids, you know for our patients, of course, medically, we’re responsible for certain things, but the other relationships.

It’s not meant to help every single person out there for every single problem. Nor would it necessarily be beneficial, because I, you know, I’ve struggled with that too, with my kids and when they’re when they’re going through things, and it’s like, do they go through it on their own?

Do I step in? Do I intervene?

And then, if you’re in this in between generation of like, you know, elderly parents and kids like, the same thing with your parents, it’s like, do I help? You know, is it okay?

Am I using too much of my energy?

I wrote this little section to kind of answer those questions that I had for myself, and then many people were asking me. This is on page 115. I’m just going to read a little excerpt because I thought that would be fun. And it’s called “Helping vs. Controlling.”

Helping vs. Controlling: A Reading from Dr. D’s Book, page 115

Dr. Arlene Dijamco“Empathic and highly sensitive people tend to want to help others, which is beautiful. As your empathy and sensitivity grow you’ll find you need to conserve your energy and use it wisely. While we are meant to be social creatures who help each other, there’s a balance to maintain. Compassion for others shouldn’t be at the expense of your well-being.”

This is really important for physicians. There’s also a line between helping others and controlling that is important to see. Helping is the sunny side of control rights and Lamont sensitive people also fall into the trap of people pleasing to control a situation.”

This is so common. This is such a common trait for physicians, and then female physicians and mom physicians just compounded further. So. But you know, this is how to navigate your helper tendencies. It’s, which is a beautiful tendency, but you need to have it in balance.

“So how can we tell the difference? Be aware of your reasons for helping. Are you trying to manage uncomfortable emotions, yours or the other person’s? You can’t control other people’s feelings, but you can shift your own experience. Here are the questions I ask myself to help me see if I’ve lost sight of the fine line between helping and controlling. You may find these helpful.:

  1. Why am I helping? What is my motivation? Is it about my feelings and my need to fix or change the situation? Is my help? Welcome my being asked for help? Am I helping out of expectation, my own or another’s? Is it purely out of service, or am I looking to be rewarded?
  2. How does my choice affect me? Do I lose myself or my values and agreeing to help? If my answer is yes, I reconsider my actions.
  3. Am I being considerate of myself and creating healthy boundaries? In other words, can I be myself in a situation? When we’re kind and sincere to ourselves, we’re more likely to stay grounded and hold space with love and respect.
  4. Am I resentful? Feelings of resentment are a sign of overextending. This is when we need to pause and rebalance.
  5. Am I being loving to myself? Loving me, loving myself means being kind to myself and others. When I love myself, I don’t need to put other people down to feel better about myself. I also care enough about myself to speak my truth and get out of harm’s way. Another way to say this is to ask yourself, if your compassion for others is balanced by self compassion.
  6. Am I being called to help? Before I help someone, I ask myself, Am I being called to help right now, this is a huge learning experience, we can be supportive of someone without interfering in their growth process. A person is whole, even when they are going through something uncomfortable. Trust the light in them and in yourself and trust in the growth process. Sometimes we are more helpful with the hands off approach. Make sure you’re being called to help before you intervene.

These questions can provide insight and reflect your state of being. Take your time as you develop more self-awareness.”

Dr. CindyThat’s beautiful.

I think those questions really help you distinguish which side of the line you are on between helping and controlling. Yeah, that’s beautiful.

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  Kids, patients, parents, other relationships, friends, neighbors. Yeah. So, the calling and the feeling called to help, that’s where it takes some quieting and grounding yourself and listening to that still small voice from within and then trusting in that.

Dr. Cindy  Towards the end of your book, you do start talking about this, and I want to ask you about the future of healthcare and how it is now. So where do you see the future of healthcare, and is there hope to heal our current system? What are your thoughts?

Hope in Healing the Current Healthcare System

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  I know I had a whole section on hope in there.

Dr. Cindy It’s a big question. I’m sorry.

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  Hope is thought coming in through spirit.

So always with hope, because we can’t create anything without hope. We can’t create without the idea and feeling behind it.

The thing is that we actually have plenty of resources. We’re just using them in a way that’s not so efficient.

You look at everyone that’s involved in health care, and it’s not integrated into the teaching where you take care of yourself first in order to be sustainable. So, if we did that, then we could work with more ease. We could be more innovative.

We could do more with less, even just with our energy.

So that “do more with less” is also a big concept, and that’s Buckminster Fuller. And just this idea we have lots of resources, the same with the earth.

I like to go big picture, macro to micro. So, if we go macro, it’s, it’s like, well, just same thing with the earth. We have to have hope of like, yes, we can all live on the earth together and be sustainable with all of its living beings, animals, plants.

Yes, we can do it in a way that’s sustainable, and that will take some innovation. It will take some being more loving and present and taking steps in that direction, where we make decisions that are more sustainable for everyone.

Then, if you apply that down to the individual level – it’s like, well, to be sustainable, you have to take care of yourself. And then that way, healthcare can do more, because it’s not, right.

Healthcare, physicians, other practitioners, aren’t necessarily taking care of themselves. And then we look at the bigger organizations.  When I say taking your care of yourself, it’s not all about finances, because we need to integrate with all the dimensions.

In an organization you have to have healthy finances, for an organization to continue, but you also have to have a healthy spirit, and they put all that together with the with the mindset, you know, that can implement it all.

So absolutely!  Absolutely. And I see it over and over again in my practice, and then just in the teachings, and seeing how people are able to really speed up their depth and efficiency of treatment.

When people come see me, and we open up the circulation, get things moving, the health is in the flow. We get the emotions flowing. Then I tell them, like everything else you’ve done or are doing now will become more efficient, because now you got some flow.

I love the “engineering-think” of it. If something’s stuck, spend a little time to tend to that so that you can have more flow.

Dr. Cindy  To step back on the micro level, we could do something for ourselves to make a change in the world. And if you add up all those little changes, that equals big change.

Then, on a macro level, yes, the organizations also need to make changes and pay attention to the spirit of the organization.

And I just love the do more with less. It can be these little and tell me if I’m getting this all wrong, but it can be these, not simple, but these little changes of getting unstuck.

Then if we can just get unstuck in all these places, and maybe we can move forward into about, yes.

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  Adjust even the smallest things, the easy things first. It’s like the grain of sand in your shoe, you know, just address that first. Not that hard, but like every step after that will be more efficient.

It’s often what I’ll sign in people’s book. It is the line, like “small steps done consistently will create miraculous results”.

You do not underestimate the little things. It’s the little things put together that create the big things.

It’s a wiggle room, like a tiny little vibration can break, I mean we know this with technology, can break rocks! It can create a crevice and a mountain – a tiny little vibration.

That’s how you break it down and make it really easy. Because if you just did that one tiny thing every day, you would shift. It would groove in new neural pathways where you wouldn’t have to think, it would start to become more instinctive and innate. And then you do as you keep going, it just expands.

Dr. Cindy  Right, and then that becomes natural, and then the next little thing, and then that becomes natural, and then it just builds like a step ladder, yeah. Oh, I love Oh, that’s a beautiful way to round out our conversation.

You are such an inspiration! Let me just tell you that.

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  Wow, and I’m so glad. And I’m so happy that to meet you and be able to have this kind of conversation in the field of medicine and with moms, and I know all that comes with it.

Dr. Cindy  Thank you for sharing that passage, from your book. I think that really hits home for a lot of the listeners.

Dr. Cindy  How much is too much? And our nature is to help people, and is it helping or controlling? I love that passage too.

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  You have to let people grow too.

Dr. Cindy  Right!

For those that want to reach out to you. What’s the best way for them to reach you?

Dr. Arlene Dijamco  If you’re looking for my book, then you can find it on Amazon, but you can also find it on the book website, which is allworldspress.com.
